History

Fleet Milestones:

Fleet Laboratories Ltd is a well established privately owned company with roots dating back to the early 20th century

1912 Fleet is part of the DDD Ltd, which was founded by the DDD Co in Chicago to sell Dr David Dennis’s DDD Prescription - an antiseptic liquid for skin troubles. The company initially specialised in producing topical skin treatments

1916 DDD acquired by Joseph Halsby (grandfather of the current Chairman) and brought to the UK

1917 The business moves to Fleet Lane, London. (Hence the name Fleet laboratories).

1951 Company moves to Watford Rickmansworth road site and set up dedicated pharmaceutical production site

1979 The new pharmaceutical manufacturing facility was officially opened by Jack Halsby.

1980 Fleet Laboratories were set up as a separate division to specialise in providing contract-manufacturing services for the toiletry and pharmaceutical industries.

1988 DDD separated into 2 business units with Dendron moving to Watford Business Park

1991 Introduction of controlled environmental bays for manufacturing vessels

1992 New controlled environmental filling rooms

1994 Commenced production of Astral brand

1995 Dedicated toiletry facility opened at Valley Park to specialise in high volume lines including alcohol and fragrance filling

1996 Installation of new MRP Impact system

1997 Rickmansworth Road site upgraded as part of an on going GMP improvement programme. Dedicated hormone suite and microbiology lab established. New purified water plant built

1998 Line segregation introduced at Rickmansworth Road site to conform to MHRA requirements

2001 Self managing team concept set up across all divisions.

2002 New state of the art QA and Product Development laboratories built to handle increasing NPD work.


Recent Developments:

2003 New divisional HQ set up at Caxton Court Watford including new warehousing and storage operation. New team established to focus on NPD, Marketing & Innovations

2004 Nigel Halsby - Chairman retires at executive level, his nephew Tom Horner joins as General Manger for the DDD Group.
Developed new advanced Sun Care technology System for world-wide retailer.
New sexual well-being product developed and launched under the Vielle brand.
DTP technology set up to aid packaging/design needs. Developed and launched first exclusive beauty brand for UK retailer
